Absolute denial of the population to leave their homes or other structures into the public space for a specified period. Israeli occupation forces often impose curfew on entire villages and cities, enforceable by lethal force. Typically, the occupation authorities impose this extreme security measure as a form of collective punishment. Lifting of curfews typically takes place on a periodic basis for one or two hours to allow essential civilian functions only.
