ABOUT CIPIA

What is the Comprehensive Information Portal on Israeli Apartheid?

The Comprehensive Information Portal on Israeli Apartheid is a joint project between The Institute for Palestine Studies (IPS), and the Global Organization against Racial Discrimination and Segregation (AARDi), launched in December 2020.  The project aims to create an integrated database on Israeli Apartheid, conduct relevant research and academic studies on the matter, and raise awareness about its nature and impact.

Vision | Mission

Our vision is a stable and just peace in the whole of historic Palestine where Palestinians enjoy their inalienable rights, and all inhabitants of the land enjoy freedom and equality in dignity and rights regardless of their religion or ethnic origin.

Our mission is to expose all laws, policies, and practices based on racial differentiation that discriminate against Palestinians wherever they live.

What does the project do?

This project will look into all Israeli policies and practices that discriminate against Palestinians on the basis of race, religion, or ethnic origins, including policies that prevent the return of Palestinian refugees to their land and policies that subject Palestinians holding Israeli citizenship to institutional and systematic discrimination. Some studies conducted by international organizations indicate that the system established by Israel, and the practices associated with it, reach the level of the crime of apartheid, as defined by the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and the International Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid. It is worth noting that international law classifies Apartheid as a crime against humanity and imposes obligations on States, organizations, and individuals to act individually and collectively to prevent and end it, as well as punish its perpetrators.

The Project and all its activities are guided by international conventions and declarations, in particular the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination, and the International Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid.

The project will contribute to a stable and just peace based on the full enjoyment of rights by all through:

  • The production of a series of academic papers and surveys on Israeli apartheid and Palestinian human rights in cooperation with renowned scholars
  • The production of position papers, briefs, and audio-visual material
  • Monitoring discriminatory Israeli laws, policies and practices and producing periodic reports on the matter
  • Holding conferences on Israeli apartheid
  • Holding seminars, lectures, and workshops

AARDi is a non-governmental organization composed of human rights advocates, academics, and activists who firmly stand against apartheid and racial discrimination. It is registered in Geneva, Switzerland as “the Global Organization against Racial Discrimination and Segregation”.
