Israel continues to subject Palestinians of all ages to arbitrary arrest, illegal imprisonment, discriminatory administrative detention and torture. On August 29, Mays Abu Ghosh, a 24-year-old Birzeit University student was arrested by Israeli security forces at her home in Qalandia refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. She was subsequently subjected to torture and interrogation at the Al-Maskobya (or Al- Maskobiyeh) Interrogation Center, which is based in Jerusalem.
She was then tied to a chair by her hands and ankles and her body was stretched into a banana shape for hours. The shackles on her hands caused constant bleeding and she was physically assaulted and subjected to verbal abuse. As her psychological state deteriorated, the guards mocked her and threatened to paralyze and even kill her.
