Divestment, or disinvestment, is the withdrawal of invested funds in public or private undertakings. Disinvestment often refers to an individual or corporate investor’s withdrawal of assets from an entity or country, usually for political or legal reasons, in order to avoid being complicit in the violation of human rights, crime or other illegal situation to which it would otherwise be a party, as well as to avoid the prosecutorial consequences of that feloniouis association.
