Yale student council condemns ‘ethnic cleansing’ and ‘apartheid’ in Palestine – by Michael Arria, Mondoweiss

On June 27,2021, the Yale Student Council, which advocates to shape the University’s policies and priorities, endorsed a statement that condemned ethnic cleansing and apartheid in Palestine.

The statement was sponsored by the Yale Arab Students, and issued by a group that strives to break the silence around Palestinian issues and end censorship, known as Yalies 4 Palestine.

Yale Jews for Palestine supported this condemnation with their own statement that was signed by over 100 Jewish Student and alumni.  It stated:

“We envision a Judaism that is inherently anti-racist and anti-Zionist, and we reject the conflation of Zionism with Judaism that labels anti-Zionism as anti-Semitic…. We will not allow our Jewishness and our history of struggle to be weaponized in order to commit pogroms, ethnic cleansing, and genocide.”

The signatories also indicated their support for the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement and called on Yale University to divest from Israel.
